Hello, Mr. Mashey wrote that some compilers do a special optimization on the whetstone benchmark. I want to confirm this: The Siemens BS2000 Fortran ( FOR1 ) generates for SIN(x)/COS(x) a call for TAN(x). It is done only in the highest level of optimization, and it speeds this thing up by 10% or so ( this is some years ago, I don't remember any details ) Reinhard Kirchner Univ.
