[comp.benchmarks] i860 MIPS?

cleary@jade.uucp (John Cleary) (04/03/91)

Hi,
I am new to comp.benchmarks and I urgently need performance info
on the i860. In particular I want integer performance.
Is there somewhere I can get this (e.g. an archive of this newsgroup)
or can someone send me some info.
I have heard (seen) quotes of i860 performacne all the way from
5 MIPS, 10MIPS, 23MIPS and 41MIPS - what gives here?

You might get 'double' the speed by using the dual operation modes.
I.e. using integer ALU an simulaneously using the float ALU.
But if your application can't take advantage of these features the
10-20 MIPS(what does this mean on a RISC Machine??) for a 40 MHZ
process seems likely.
