[comp.windows.ms.programmer] UNIX IPC under MS Windows 3 - How ?

keogh@nixeid.UUCP (Paul Keogh) (11/12/90)

I wish to port a large UNIX application to Windows 3.0. The application consistsof three processes which communicate using the System V IPC mechanisms -
messages, shared memory and semaphores.

Are the "IPC" features of Windows (messages, dynamic data exchange) sufficently
powerful and flexible to enable me to use them as architectural replacements for
the UNIX IPC mechanisms ? or is it better to rip out the IPC calls and replace
them with ordinary function calls ?. If anyone has experience with this problem
or comments or suggestions, please mail me.

On a more generic note, are there any books, papers, reference materials etc.
which deal with this area of porting UNIX applications to Windows ?

If there is sufficient interest/response, I will edit and collate an initial
guide to porting UNIX applications to Windows and place it somewhere accessible.(here or cica)

Thanx for your help
