Here's how to get an application to get on the Beta list for the 
Multimedia Extensions to Windows 3.0.

Call (206) 936-4877 and leave a message detailing your name,
company, address, etc.  An application will be mailed to you.
You can also mail a request to the address below.

Once you receive the application packet, follow the steps outlined
below.  Note that the software is only distributed on CD-ROM, so you
will need a CD-ROM drive in your system to install the extensions.

During the beta, the MDK will be under controlled distribution.  You are 
required to fill out an application form for the MDK beta program which 
includes:
	1) Multimedia Development Kit Beta Program Application Questionnare
	2) Limited OnLine Agreement for the Multimedia Development Kit 
	   Pre-Release Program
	3) Multimedia Development Kit Pre-Release Non-Disclosure Agreement
	4) Multimedia Development Kit Installation Hardware Requirements

The MDK provides support for two distinct development environments.  C 
programmers will need the MDK along with the Microsoft Windows 3.0 SDK 
and Microsoft C 6.0 compiler.  Developers using high-level authoring tools 
will use the data preparation tools in the MDK along with a tool such as 
Toolbook, Authorware, or Guide.

The Application Process:

Step 1:
 Complete the application questionnare.

 If you choose to purchase OnLine, sign the OnLine application form and 
 include a check for $495 made payable to Microsoft for the purchase of 
 OnLine product support.  (Please note that this is a special, discounted 
 price offered through Jan. 1)

 Sign the Non Disclosure Agreement for the Multimedia Development Kit Beta 
 Program.

 Mail the completed application to:
	Microsoft Corporation
	1 Microsoft Way
	Redmond, WA 98052-6399
	Attention: Angie Collins

Step 2:
 An account manager from the Multimedia System Group will call you upon 
 receipt of your application to further qualify you and inform you of the 
 disposition of your application.

Step 3:
 Upon acceptance of your application, a beta version of the Multimedia 
 Development Kit will be shipped to the address provided by you in your 
 application.

Microsoft hopes to provide you with the support needed to begin the 
development of your application.  In turn, we hope to learn more about your 
thoughts and reaction to our system software.  We look forward to working 
together in the future.


MDK Contents

The release will be provided on two CD-ROM discs labeled Multimedia Development
Kit: Development Environment and Multimedia Development Kit: End-User 
Environment.  Installation will require a development system with a CD-ROM 
drive as recommended in the attached hardware requirements description.  

Contents of the Multimedia Development Kit: Development Environment 
disc include:

	* Windows with  multimedia extensions: End User version
	* Multimedia Data Preparation Tools 
	* Multimedia Software Development Kit (the C development files for 
	  Windows with multimedia extensions)
	* Build Tools (the tools, link libraries, and files needed for 
	  building the source provided in the MDK)
	* MDK Setup Utility

The Multimedia Development Kit: End-User Environment disc only contains:

	* Windows with  multimedia extensions: End User version

The End User version of Windows with multimedia extensions is provided to 
more easily set-up target systems to test your applications.

Also included is one Macintosh floppy disk which provides translation tools 
to port a Mac-authored Macromind Director file to the PC.  The Macintosh 
floppy disc includes:

	* Microsoft Movie Converter

The two goals of the beta program are to provide software for you to begin 
development of your multimedia application and to provide Microsoft with 
feedback about the functionality provided by the Multimedia Development Kit 
as well as suggestions for future features.

Microsoft views the beta program as a partnership and this application will 
help us understand your company's interest in fully exercising the beta 
software.  While purchase of OnLine is not required, technical support will 
only be available through OnLine.  A bulletin board accessible by all those 
participating in the beta program may be used for inter-developer 
communication.  The beta program exists to provide developers with the 
necessary and appropriate resources, education, and support through OnLine 
to ensure the successful and timely implementation of your projects.
