[comp.windows.ms.programmer] How to get more than 570K in a DOS window under WIN 3.0?

ndeng@EULER.BERKELEY.EDU (12/17/90)

I have a question about using DOS applications under Windows 3.0:
(fairly basic, but I don't know how to do it)

How to free up enough memory for DOS applications to be able to
   run successfully under windows?

As many DOS applications really require 570-580KB of memory, but under
a win 3.0 window, I can get only 535K at most (Use Desqview I can get
570-580K easily for the same config.sys file). I know I have some device
drivers and my environment setup has been complex, but how could I load
the drivers into high memory so as to free as much as possible of the
640K under windows?

Please respond to this account since I don't read the net regularly.
Any pointer would be very much appreciated. If there is enough general
interest, I'll post a summary.
