[comp.windows.ms.programmer] Getting a bitmap from a file.

pdavid@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU (Paul C. David) (12/18/90)

I want to read a bitmap from a file, without declaring a
resource name in the *.rc file. What is the file format
that I can expect? I thought that it would be something
like this :

BITMAPFILEHEADER structure.
BITMAPINFO structure w/ a BITMAPINFOHEADER structure as a
member.
BITMAP bits.

The data that I can read is inconsistant. For some
BMP files I can read the width and height, but not the #
of planes or bits per pixel. For others, I can't even
read the height and width correctly. I *must* be
forgetting something. Can anyone help me out with a code
fragment, or a file format specification? Please reply
via e-mail, I will forward this to anyone who requests
it.

Thanks, Paul.
