[comp.windows.ms.programmer] Anyone make their own fonts under 3.0 SDK? NO! flame

Ha! This is funny! Microsoft says to change the 'link4' reference to
'link' in their errata sheet for SDK 3.0. However, this doesn't work.

Now, where can I get a copy of link4? I tried calling Microsoft,
but everyone was out playing in the snow... It's not in MSC 5.1,
nor in the SDK, nor in the Supplemental Compiler Kit. Oh, was I
*supposed* to purchase a copy of the 2.11 SDK?

[flame on]
I really hate Microsoft development tools... Their finished products
seem to be okay, but their development systems never have the sparkle
and shine of Borland's stuff. Microsoft is definitely NOT using the
SDK they sell, or it wouldn't be half as bad as it is.

Hey! Here's a brilliant idea, Microsoft! How about having the font
editor make .FON files? Now wouldn't that be convenient!

I knew I was using brain damaged software when the font editor informed
me that it couldn't make a new font file... it simply had to edit
an old one. I can't even believe a program of this caliber got out
to the market place. Just what were they thinking? Obviously,
no one beta tested font development.
[flame off]

Anyone know when Borland is going to release their version of the
SDK including C++?

Anyway, I got around my problem by moving my LCD number font into
icons. They were almost 32x32 anyway, so it wasn't a problem.
Also, they display a hell of a lot faster than normal fonts, and
I don't have to go thru that AddFontResource crap. I have to do
a little extra work to display them, but it's a lot easier and
cheaper than putting my fist through the monitor after seeing the
"no segments defined" message for about the 20th time.

Hey, by the way, people from all over the world (including the
Soviet Union) wrote me and told me they couldn't get the fonts
to work under the new 3.0 SDK. The Soviet wrote,

"Beer is necessary for Windows programming, do you agree?"

Yes, quite heartily.
