If you've received an offer in the mail for Borland C++ 2.0 at a "sale" price of $399, don't jump at it. Programmer's Connection has an ad in the March LAN magazine offering it for $349. (I have no relationship of any kind with Programmer's Connection.)

Actually, Borland is offering BC++ to the educational community (The "Scholar Program") at $99.95! That's even cheaper than the upgrade price because you save $10 shipping! Call them and ask for more info.

If you can't get an educational discount the optimum price should be through upgrades. Turbo C++ can be had for $68 via mail order and the upgrade to Borland C++ is $149 (+ $10 shipping). Since you "just bought it" (ahem!) I understand that the upgrade price may be even lower. Add the SDK books at about $70 from most discount book houses and you can build Windows apps for less than $300. John Munsch

/ hpopd:comp.windows.ms.programmer / yeates@motcid.UUCP (Tony J Yeates) / 7:13 pm Feb 26, 1991 / Other windows applications seem to run on anything as long as it has a windows driver.. whats the deal with the debugger? ---------- The debugger flips the screen to a character mode for the debugger interface, and back to graphics for when Windows is free-running. I guess it was easier to do it this way than to start from scratch with a windowed debugger interface. The new single-screen CodeView does the same. cheers........... martin wink... BTW: I don't know if I'm risking problems, but the debugger *will* run if you have a 1024x768 driver set up, although there is some temporary screen corruption as it flips.

From bob_kelley%30@hp0200.desk.hp.com Thu Feb 28 09:44 PST 1991 Please post this: I called Borland and told them I had purchased TC++ on Dec 11 and I was kind of upset that a new version came out so soon. I told them I had bought TC Pro Ver 2.0 about a year ago, and did not exercise the upgrade option to TC++, paying full price for it at Fry's. They said: We'll send you an upgrade free. Yow! That's it -- I'm buying Paradox too! These guys are really great -- all they wanted to see was the receipt for TC++ and the SN for TC 2.0. I'm sold! Bob K.
