[comp.windows.ms.programmer] Excel 3.0 and DDE

I am writing a WinWord macro that requests data from different
applications via DDE. 
 
Now, if some request fails I normally get an error back, but 
Excel 3.0 just doesn't reply. I have to wait for a timeout in 
Winword. If Excel then gets activated by user action it first
displays a message box telling whatever went wrong in the DDE
request.
 
Perhaps I overlooked an option in excel - somthing like: "Handle
DDE requests just like user interaction." -  Or its just an X.0-
error:-).
 
I would greatly appreciate any help.
