[comp.windows.ms.programmer] Partial install of BC++

shite@unf7.UUCP (Stephen Hite) (03/17/91)

   I just wanted to use Whitewater's resource editors for the time
being until my new empty 80 meg SCSI comes in the mail. I just don't
have 15 meg right now for the full BC++ install so Sidney helped me to
figure out how to concatenate the split ZIP files.

  It turns out that the first 4 bytes of each split ZIP file contains
information used by Borland's install program (i.e. file size, part #).
So...just strip the first 4 bytes of each part, concatenate and then
you have a normal ZIP file.

  It's a very simple program to write, but, being the lazy kinda guy I am
I used the new zippy whizbang binary editor posted to alt.sources within
the last few weeks. It's called BEAV and it's great! It will compile
under DOS but I just did it under Interactive Unix v2.2 (my DOS partition
is too short of space) and used Unix 'cat'.

  Where to get BEAV if your interested? Try wuarchive.wustl.edu...they
carry an alt.sources archive.
