I have often wanted to simply hide the icons of the several utilities that always seem to clutter up my desktop. I tried moving them off the edge of the screen as far as possible, but windows likes to keep the full text of the icon on the screen. Then I wondered. I am not a windows programmer at all (though I would like to be in the future..) so I have no idea how true the horror stories of the difficulty in programming for windows are. But how hard would it be to write a program that does nothing but display a small rectangle on the desktop? It could be black, or another color, or, even better, a copy of the desktop pattern behind it (is that possible?) Then you could simply move the rectangle over the icons you don't want to see. This strikes me as one of those, gee this seems so obvious.... things, so maybe someone else has already done this before.... I was just curious about the feasibility of it....
