[comp.windows.ms.programmer] Scanners and Windows...

hong@ux.acs.umn.edu (Steve Hong) (03/27/91)

A question to all you netters out there...

How does one get a scanner to work with Windows? More specifically,
I need to be able to scan images from various scanners (HP, and others)
into Windows. I will be using MS-C 6.0 (with SDK) or Borland C++ and
need info on how to scan.

Are there drivers for Windows that will do the trick? Or do I have
to write a scan routine for every scanner on the market?

Thanks in advance,

Steve Hong (hong@ux.acs.umn.edu)

I have a product called TrueScan that came with my NISCAN/GS hand
scanner. I think they make different driver modules for other scanners
as well. I forget who makes TrueScan, but I remember seeing ads for it
in the usual PC magazines.

As to how to write a driver, that could be different for each type of
scanner and most likely would be. You'd have to talk to the manufacturer
of the scanner to get interface information and go from there.

Good luck.

Oops, I got the name wrong, it's Image-In Scan and Paint Plus made by
Image-In Inc. (1-800-345-3450). It supports over a dozen different scanners
and has a built-in gray-scale editor.

My apologies to all who were misinformed.
