I am getting BC++ to try some windows programming for an inhouse system we need here. Do I *need* the Microsoft SDK, or are all the includes and libraries I might need included in the Borland C++ set? I *do* intend to get some good technical books on windows programming to use in place of the SDK manuals. I just need to know whether there is source or other code in the SDK that I must have. thanks

You will need some kind of reference for the windows API/Library. You get a coupon for the Petzold book, which is good. If you want to avoid buying the SDK, the three books that come with the library are available from the microsoft press collection. The second book (Microsoft Windows Programmers's Reference) has all the calls documented and is the most useful. The first book is the Guide to Programming and is a general overview which you could avoid getting (IMHO) by getting the Petzold book. The third book describes how to use the tools that come with the SDK (icon editor, etc.) and is not necessary since the Whitewater toolkit and documentation comes with BC++. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Brian R Ricker gt2327c@prism.gatech.edu PO Box 24867 Ga Tech Stn | | Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta,GA 30332 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't remember seeing any copyright info in them (i unloaded them and don't feel like reloading) I won't venture to say what this might mean, but..... |----------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Tom Hite | The views expressed by me | |Manager, Product development | are mine, not necessarily | |CADSI (Computer Aided Design Software Inc. | the views of CADSI. | |----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
