To any who are interested in monitoring shortwave broadcasters, general SWL'ing, and DXing (inspired by the recent inquiry about Radio Venceremos): The best source for up-to-the-minute information as to frequency and times of broadcasts for all the non-standard stations (clandestines, pirates, harmonics, etc.) and changes to the schedules of the regular SW broadcasters can be gleaned by listening to Glenn hauser's "DX News" segment on Radio Canada International's Shortwave Listener's Digest program each weekend. Best times and frequencies for North American reception are: 2130 GMT Saturdays (4:30 PM CDT), in their African service, on 17875, 17820, 15325, 15150, and 11945 kHz. (This is the only complete version; for some silly reason, other broadcasts have a minute or so cut out. Midnite and 0300 GMT Mondays (that's Sunday at 7:00 PM CDT and 10:00 PM CDT) in the North American service -- several frequencies which I don't recall, but I always listen on 5960 kHz. He'll even mention some ham nets if the topics discussed are of general interest. The whole program is of interest to anyone who has any interest at all in the world of shortwave. Hauser has another program, too; his syndicated "WORLD OF RADIO" program is carried now on the new New Orleans shortwave station WRNO, at 2330 GMT Sundays (6:30 PM CDT Sunday) on 11855 kHz. This is a half-hour magazine show on all sorts of radio-oriented topics. Highly recommended. Regards, Will Martin (USArmy DARCOM ALMSA)
