hi all, I've been asked by a small company to create a little computer program as an x-mas present for their business relations. The program should work under macintosh and dos (windows 3.0) operating systems. To avoid making the same program twice on both machines, i'm looking for a programming environment that can create executeables on both platforms. The program is basically an address database with one extra 'notes` field. The notes field must be able to contain up to 20K of text in different fonts and font sizes. It must also be printable (WYSIWYG). The program must also be able to print a user selected group of addresses on labels. The program must be very simple to use and have an on-line help function. The user should be able to run the program without having to buy his own copy of the programming environment. It is OK though if it requires a run-time version of the environment that can be distributed at no (or little) charge. I've looked at two alternatives so far: PLUS and OMNIS. I'm still waiting for a demo version of PLUS to test some things out. OMNIS requires a run-time version that costs $300 a copy and has been dropped as a possibility. Another alternative is creating two versions anyway. I'm a mac programmer and it's no big deal to create a mac version, but how about windows. Does it have a build in text editor that can handle different fonts and font-sizes? How hard is programming windows? Is there an environment that can do the things i want without too much trouble? If anyone has experience with creating a program running under Mac and Windows please tell me what program you used and what you experiences were.
