hr propagation forecast bulletin nr 27 from arrl headquarters
newington ct july 7, 1982
to all radio amateurs bt

the month of june was remarkable for its extremes of solar activity.
solar flux ranged from 256 on the 12th to 105 on the 30th. the sun
was almost spotless june 28 through july 4, and the solar flux
dropped to 103 july 1 and 2. it rose slowly thereafter, and it is
expected to continue with increased momentum after july 6.

sunspot numbers and the solar flux are not major factors during the
northern hemisphere summer. the state of the earths magnetic field
is more critical, as evidenced by good summer conditions as this
bulletin was issued. the wwv k index was 2 or lower over most of the
holiday period but erratic conditions can be expected during the
forecast week. disturbance peaks are due july 6 to 7 and 9 to 11.

american sunspot numbers june 24 through 30 were between 122 and 32
for a mean of 69. numbers in the low 30s were not reported in the
last five years until june 28. numbers will be higher next week ar
