I have worked with several MS-Windows applications that claim to import EPS files, but all have different rules. Those that post their rules are often incorrect (e.g., WinWord -- in the Tech Reference). Of those applications, Ventura Publisher has been very reliable and robust (although it does not display the contents of the Title or Creator comments).. Winword claims that one only has to worry about 10 calls (4 of which were misspelled due to program error), but doesn't document its EPS comments requirements. In addition, the pp_save macro generated by WinWord properly un-defines showpage, so that CAN be in the file, contrary to the tech reference (and in accordance with Adobe's document structuring conventions). By experimentation, I found that WinWord's EPS imports: a) Cannot have a ^D at the end b) cannot have any non-comments before the %%EndComments format command Limitation (a) is a bit onerous, since one would sometimes like to download the file directly to the printer, and have the job terminate. I have not figured out powerpoint's requirements at all (and they are totally undocumented in the manual). Are these conventions documented anywhere? How are developers to generate compatible products? -- schwartz@pogo.den.mmc.com "You'll find ... that the only thing mschwartz@mmc.com you can do easily is be wrong, DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed are and that's hardly worth the effort" not necessarily those of my employer or myself. --the phantom tollbooth
