. I've just gotten a mailing offering Actor 3.1 for $99.99, with some other goodies thrown in: a book and tutorial disk called "Read Me First" for free, the "seal-off" module for $29.99, and the Whitewater Resource Toolkit for $119.99 - offer good till 20 July. I'm not a Windows developer (yet), but I've been looking for good tools for writing Windows utilities. I don't know if this is what I'm looking for; there was a review of Actor 3.0 (I think) in one of the magazines a few months ago, that described it as, in a word, clumsy. The one possible advantage over Visual Basic that I can see is the ability to incorporate C code for the various functions to be executed. Do any of you out there know anything about Actor 3.1, in particular whether any of the (alleged) deficiencies of 3.0 have been remedied? Is 3.1 by itself sufficient, or will I need to shell out for a full- strength C compiler in addition? In short: is it a good deal? Any constructive replies (no flames, no religious wars) will be appreciated. I'll be listening on this frequency. dhf@linus
