[comp.windows.ms.programmer] Changing the system pallette

I was working with my programmer today trying to change the system color
pallette from that funky set of garish bright colors to a support
an 8 element gray scale. Anyone have any examples of how this is done, as
the discussion in the reference manual isn't working.

From an article in a recent PC magazine (environments) by Petzold I
read that the standard VGA driver of windows does not allow pallette
changes. The grays demo program that is provided in that article
proves it. You might be able to do this with other vendors 'standard'
vga drivers, but I haven't tried that.
