SRI Continues to Help Rescue UO-9
--- --------- -- ---- ------ -- -
The efforts at SRI International continued throughout the past
couple weeks to try and fix the ailing UoSAT OSCAR 9 satellite.
The try at communicating with the 70 cm command module failed,
and the decision was made to try and activate the 2 m command
transponder. Before this can be done, a 2 m feed will be attached
to the 46 meter dish and a 2 m amplifier will also be installed.
If all went well, 2 m attempts should have begun on 23 August.

Geo-Sync OSCAR Proposal
--- ---- ----- --------
Cablesat General Corporation, Cocoa, Florida, has submitted a
proposal to the Federal Communications Commission to launch two
geosyncronous domestic satellites in 1985 or 1986. Aboard the two
satellites would also be one each amateur radio transponder. The
two birds would be between 60 and 70 degrees west longitude and
140 and 150 degrees west longitude, thus covering the entire
continental United States and most of Canada and Mexico. Launch
would be aboard a STS/PAM-D flight (Space Transportation System
with Payload Assist Module D). The proposal calls for 3.65 to 5.67
GHz uplinks and 3.40 to 3.41 GHz downlinks OSCARs. The system
would carry the brand of ARNET (Amateur Radio Network Experimental
Transponder).

Ariane L5 Ready
------ -- -----
At press time, the launch of Ariane L5 was scheduled for 0230 UTC,
10 September, 1982. AMSAT is planning launch summary nets to inform
listeners of the status of L5 after launch. If held, the nets would
probably occur at 15 minutes intervals on 21280 kHz at 0300 UTC,
14282 kHz at 0315 UTC, and 3850 kHz at 0330 UTC, all on Friday,
10 September.

Whoops! One minor correction: The uplinks to the proposed geosync
OSCAR's would be 5, not 3, GHz.
