[comp.sys.amiga.multimedia] CD_ROM Drives in Amigas

hill@evax.arl.utexas.edu (Adam Hill) (03/27/91)

I hate to burst peoples bubbles but YOU CAN HAVE A CD-ROM in your
Amiga NOW!!!! All you need is a SCSI CD-ROM, a CD-ROM Filesystem and a
compatible SCSI card.

I have played with a Toshiba CD-ROM in a $60.00 case with power
supply, along with Hypermedia Concepts CDROM-FS ($49.95). All of this
was hooked into CBM's 2091 SCSI card. Everything worked perfectly.

As far as hooking it into a 2000 in the 5 1/4" drive bay, one would
have to know about 1) The power requirements and physical power
connection on the CD-ROM and 2) The length of the CD-ROM, spacers
(most CD's are half height) and mounting rails. If the 2000 PS has a
connector for power and it is plugable into the CD-ROM the rest should
be REAL easy, the Toshiba CD-ROM was about the same size as a 5 1/4"
Segate.

So people GO FORTH AND PUT CD-ROMS INTO THE UNWASHED MASSES!!!!
