I need some information on CDROM drives for the PC and the Amiga. Does
anyone know the name and publisher and address or phone of the magazine on\
CDROMS? Does anyone know of a review of CDROM tech specs (speed, etc.)?

Does anyone have a favorite CDROM drive?

Any insights on search/interface software??

Thanks

Well this may not be much, but it's something.

There is an article in the May 13 issue of MicroTimes that talks about
CDROMs and the Amiga.

>Does anyone have a favorite CDROM drive?

The author of the article uses a Toshiba XM-5100A1.
He like it because:

"It's fast,"
"Has a volume control and headphone jack" (for playing audio discs)
"It does not require a CD-caddy".

It requires "about 100KB of memory per drive for the driver and buffers,
and can use up to an additional 100KB for the path table, depending on
the disc you use with it."

>Any insights on search/interface software??

The author uses something called CDROM-FS as a drive/interface for the
CD-ROM box.

He says it is hard to get, since, "it's not being marketed very aggressivly".

It is supposed to read any "ISO9660 CD-ROM discs, and in some cases may let
you run CDTV discs."

The product was tested with the, "HyperMedia Concepts Fred Fish Collection
on CD-ROM." (Contains 410 discs frm the Fish collection.

The author of the article is Matthew Leeds.

I have never used the things mentioned, but am VERY interested in CD-ROM
for the Amiga.

I am posting this to not only give the original poster some info., but
to fish for comments from anyone who might have actually used the stuff.
