There are several groups of students here at the UofA who are just learning Xview/OpenLook (etc.), and we are doing image processing type work where we need to be able to set the color map to our own (GreyScale) color map with *** 256 *** levels, i.e., the WHOLE COLORMAP. We realize that that will wipe out any other colormaps being used currently by other programs. This is OK (regrettable, but OK). We are using SUN SparcStations (with and without the GFX board). We know how to set the colormap but we can't figure out how to grab the entire colormap of 256 values so that we can do our GreyScale images. People have sent us source code to set the colormap but none of it set the colormap to acquire all of the 256 levels to do with as we please. Can anyone help us? We really need the whole 256 greyscale levels!!! Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated as we are getting close to the end of the semester and need to get our projects and homework finished.
