[comp.windows.open-look] OpenWin mailtool trashes spool directory

de@cs.glasgow.ac.uk (David England) (12/13/90)

Why does the OpenWindows (2.0) mailtool trash the messages in my
spool directory? Occasionally it merges one message with another,
infrequently it will loose messages completely! This is not acceptable.

I don't know for sure, but I suggest the following.

1) if you NFS mount your /var/spool/mail directory, and you have the
'OR' option in your sendmail.cf file, you also set the actimeo to 1:

unclejack:/var/spool/mail /var/spool/mail nfs rw,hard,actimeo=1,intr 0 0

2) Get the latest version of sendmail from uunet.

3) Be care of reading mail from home, while mailtool is running.
I always select "save changes" and/or "done" before I leave for the
   day.
