[comp.windows.open-look] problem with times in cm on sun4

weimer@garden.kodak.COM (Gary Weimer (588-0953)) (01/09/91)

I'm having trouble with cm (calendar manager) on a sun4. When viewing a month,
if I select the 8th (using left mouse button), the 7th is highlighted. If I
then select Edit Appointment, the edit window says it is for the 7th, but
the window listing appointments lists appointments for the 6th. If I insert
an appointment, 5 hours are subtracted from the start time before the
appointment is added to the calendar. The new appointment is displayed on
the month view, but not in the edit subwindow for appointments (since it shows
appointments for the previous day). If I enter an appointment for 12:00am,
5 hours are subtracted and the appointment appears on the previous day, and
then it does appear in the edit subwindow for appointments.

I have openwin on two machines:
problem machine: (name: spinach) Sun 4/40, standalone
other machine: (name: garden) Sun 4/65, server with 3 SLC clients.

cm works fine on garden and its clients, but has the above problems on spinach.

If I rlogin to spinach from garden and run cm on spinach, displaying on garden,
I still have the problem.

If I rlogin to garden from spinach and run cm on garden, displaying on spinach,
I do not have the problem.

The clock (dclock) and the date command both work properly and display the
correct time zone on both machines.

I have copied the binaries for cm and rpc.cmsd from garden to spinach, but
it had no affect.

All other aspects of the calendar seem to be working, but I keep getting these
time conversions. One theory I had is that cm and rpc.cmsd (cm deamon) think
that they are running in different time zones--even though they are on the
same machine.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know a possible solution? Suggestions
for other tests I can run?
