[comp.windows.open-look] OpenWindows 2.0 problems with cm, olwm, etc.

neal@druhi.ATT.COM (XGPB30000-McBurnettND(DR9225)289) (01/11/91)

I'm running OpenWindows 2.0 on a Sun 3/60 under SunOs 4.0.3, and
have run into these problems. Can anyone help?

The calendar manager stops working every night and I get this error
on my console. It (usually) starts working again if I run install_cmgr
again. What a pain! What is going wrong? (drbass is my (diskless) node.)

Does anyone have a way of integrating the calendar manager with
the old "calendar" program (really the "$HOME/calendar" file)?
I would like to be able to convert entries in both directions
so that I can interface with other calendar printing and sharing
software which uses the "calendar" file format.

Has anyone figured out how to map the backspace character so it
acts like "delete" during text entry in panels?

Does anyone have patches for xterm so it responds to olwm during a
"save workspace"? Will future versions of xterm from MIT support this
feature, or is it exclusively a Sun hack?

Why do all the applications put their "properties" menus under something
like "edit" rather than on the Window menu?

I wish the mailtool included messages the way most news readers do,
with the "> " prefix.

Why aren't shell variables expanded in filenames for any of the Desk Set
tools?

Some tools don't adapt well to a color scheme with light text on a dark
background.

Some of my icons (most frequently the filemanager and wastebasket)
have the wrong background: stippled instead of blue.

I wish the "props" command would give you the option of saving properties
in a file other than .Xdefaults so I could merge its properties in
with other properties I set in other ways.

The olwm workspace menu doesn't recognize the control key as a way to
change the default selection.
