[comp.windows.open-look] XView on non-Sun platforms

alok@trishna.Eng.Sun.COM (Alok Singhania - Windows Marketing) (02/02/91)

There seems to be some confusion over over the pricing and availability
of the XView toolkit on DEC, HP, and IBM workstations. The following
should clear things up. If you have further questions, please refer to
your Sun representative or reply to me directly.

Thank you.

Development Kit
----------------
XView Development kit on DECstations, IBM RS 6000 series and HP 9000/300
and 400 series will be shipped by Sun within the next 60 days. The
development kit (binaries only) includes
	- XView library
	- MIT X11 R4
	- olwm
	- Few utility tools such as TextEditor, clock, cmdtool
	- Documentation Set
	- One year of technical support
	- Single RTU (Right to Use)

This kit is priced at $2995 per platform. The street price of the kit
should be lower because of standard discounting.

Redistribution License
-----------------------
Sun also sells a redistribution license for $8995 (discountable). You
need to buy the redistribution **only** if you are interested in
redistributing the XView library with your application. This license
will entitle you to redistribute the XView library with your
application royalty free. The $8995 price amounts to paying $40
royalty for 225 copies of an application. The license also includes
unlimited RTU (Right to Use).

Other vendors selling the XView ports
--------------------------------------
Besides Sun, Unipress will also be selling the DEC, IBM and HP port.
You should call Unipress at (201)985-8000 to get details.

XView Source
-------------
The XView source is still free from MIT. Sun will continue to update
the XView source with newer releases. Sun has also donated a sample
implementation of an earlier draft XIM (X Input Method) which allows
developers to write kanji XView applications.

Sun will do its best to make the XView source as portable as possible
so that people not interested in buying binary/documentation/support
from Sun can use the XView source to create binaries for various
platforms.

If you need more details on the products, pricing and availability,
please call your Sun representative or 1-800-USA-4Sun in about 2 weeks.
