Sorry for the (possibly inappropriate) crossposting, but ... I recently started running the Sun OpenWindows 2 xnews server with tvtwm as the window manager on a SPARC 1+ with SunOS 4.1. I now find that from time to time windows seem to get 'lost'. A humungous multi-process application creates windows that disappear as soon as they receive input focus when running under the window manager. That is, if I kill tvtwm and create some windows using this app, then restart tvtwm, then move the mouse into one of the windows owned by the application, the window is unmapped, never to be seen again. If I create the windows when tvtwm is running then they are mapped and unmapped after a few seconds. If I click twice on an entry in the iconbox then the window is mapped, but sometimes when it is unmapped it is also removed from the iconbox. The program (eg contool) continues to execute, but the window never shows up again, even if I kill tvtwm. This mainly happens with OLIT apps, but I have seen it once with the X11R4 p18 xterm. Since having the mouse on the entry in the iconbox gives the input focus to the app I suspect that this is a similar problem. *Any* constructive response (even informed guesses as to whether the problem is more likely to be in xnews or tvtwm) would be greatly appreciated. This happens to us, too, with twm. I recommend the use of MIT x11r4 instead, unless you have software from recalcitrant vendors that wants to run under suntools. -- -- datri@convex.com
