Anyone have a replacement tool for the olwm properties option? Currently properties doesnt work in a manner that I would expect. What it does is replace one's Xdefaults with what ever happens to be loaded into the RESOURCE_PROPERTY (apparently). The problem with this is that a) you lose all other properties which you might have #ifdef'd into the Xdefaults file, b) you get stuck with properties in your .Xdefaults which may not belong there. An example of this second item is as follows - we are setting up some default resources for our users. We need to xrdb these values in so that they do not have to be duplicated . Once the user does a properties, the values that were in place at that time are saved into his or her environment. The problem comes later when we need to change one of those properties. Now we have to describe to non-technical staff how to edit the Xdefaults file. Rather than doing this, what we would rather see is the ability to have olwm MERGE its properties into the user's Xdefaults file, replacing only the relavant resources. This would result in both problems being covered. Anyone have a tool that would do that? The xrdb -edit ALMOST does this right - it does do the merge as I would like to see - but it merges in ALL new resources. -- Larry W.
