lwv27@CAS.BITNET (Larry W. Virden ext. 2487) (05/25/91)
During initialization, the following xmodmap is performed by
/usr/openwin/lib/openwin-system:
#install Meta keys, XView function keys, AltGraph and Num_Lock as modifiers
xmodmap -e 'add mod1 = Meta_L Meta_R' \
-e 'add mod2 = F13 F16 F18 F19 F20' \
-e 'add mod3 = Mode_switch' \
-e 'add mod4 = Num_Lock'
I think I understand the first and last part - the Meta_L and R take
care of assigning a meaning to the first modifier - though to be honest
I do not know what that implies.
The last sets a special modifier for the Num Lock key, which I assume is
then honored or recognized perhaps by the server to mean to toggle
the keypad.
But what is that mod2 and 3 for? The comments imply it has something to
do with input of either window oriented functions or special graphics
oriented functions. But what are those functions?
Thanks
