hr propagation forecast bulletin nr 49	from arrl headquarters
newington ct december 6, 1982
to all radio amateurs bt

the slow solar flux rise predicted for about december 3 in last weeks
bulletin turned out to be a fast rise beginning the 2nd. it brought
the solar flux from 171 to 216 by the 5th. this new activity is in
an area of the sun responsible for the november low of 139. on the
5[error] flux was 71 points higher than at the same sun position in
november.

overcast skies in the northeast prevented visual observation of the
sun, but previous experience indicates a peak about the 6th or 7th.
this would put the flux high enough for more 50 mhz f layer dx,
through about the 9th, and many hours of dx on 28 and 21 mhz during
the forecast week. intermittent geomagnetic disturbances will bring
increased absorption and fading on lowe frequencies much of the
time. look for enhanced north south 50 mhz propagation and possible
enhancement on other transequatorial paths at times when the wwv k
index is 3 or higher.

a special bulletin will be issued ahead of the usual weekly schedule
if results of daily solar observations warrant	ar
