[comp.windows.open-look] Filemgr Problem with setting custom commands

jack@richsun.cpg.trs.reuter.com (Jack Gidding) (06/18/91)

Hello net world,

I am having a problem with the file manager program provided by Sun. Under the
File menu there is a place where you can enter your own commands. I have been
trying to get the command "compress %FILE" to work, but filemgr doesn't seem
to know what %FILE is. In the man pages for filemgr, it says to use %FILE to
indicate the selected file.

Am I doing something drastically wrong or are the man pages incorrect?

advTHANKSance,

It sure isn't you. Probably a typo error. It should be $FILE as it say in
the printed stuff (DeskSet Environment Reference Guide).

Try $FILE instead of %FILE. I've not read the documentation for this, but if
you say it shows `%FILE', then it's wrong. BTW, the contents of `$FILE' has
a space appended to it -- this caused me problems when I wanted to append an
extension to a filename :-) .

At least, I use $FILE with no probs! :-)
