[gnu.emacs.help] problems activating keypad in emacs on the mips

vinter@nixbur.UUCP (Stephen Vinter) (11/07/90)

I can't activate the keypad so that it generates control sequences. It only
generates digits, no matter what I do. I'm running a MIPS 3000, and release
18.55.4 of emacs, running under X. $TERM is set to xterm.

From the shell

     echo "^[="

(ESC-=) turns the keypad's control sequences on just fine (only in the shell,
though). Running emacs from this shell turns them off again in the emacs
window.

In the past, I've used:

     (send-string-to-terminal "^[=")

to do it (it can't be interactively executed, so I set up a function
to run it). That seems to have no effect here. Using open-termscript,
the output of send-string-to-terminal is the correct "=".

I would be prefer to being able to enable the keypad in emacs. Short of that,
I'd like to be able to remap the key sequences generated by the keypad to
control sequences that get sent to emacs, possibly using xmodmap or a
translation table in .Xdefaults. So far, I haven't been able to do that,
eiher.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
