[gnu.emacs.help] emacs 18-55 on an ncr tower and/or Interactive 386 Un?x box

rusty@anasaz.UUCP (Rusty Carruth) (02/08/91)

I am having a little trouble getting emacs 18.55 built on our
tower (PLEASE PLEASE LET ME GET EMACS UP on the tower so I can
quit having to use vi for editing!!!!).

What is happening is that I get the following (edited for brevity):

$	cd etc; make  all
$	cc -o yow -g yow.c
$	cd src; make  all
$	make    -f xmakefile  all
$	./temacs -batch -l inc-vers
$Warning: lisp library (/work/gnu/emacs/lib/lisp) does not exist.
$Warning: executable/documentation dir (/work/gnu/emacs/lib/etc/) does not exist.
$Loading inc-vers...
$New Emacs version will be 18.55.2
$	./temacs -batch -l loadup.el dump
$Warning: lisp library (/work/gnu/emacs/lib/lisp) does not exist.
$Warning: executable/documentation dir (/work/gnu/emacs/lib/etc/) does not exist.
$Loading loadup.el...
$Loading subr...
$Loading loaddefs.el...
$Loading simple...
$Loading help...
$Invalid read syntax: "] in a list"
$
$*** Error code -1
$
$Stop.
$

Help! Why do I get the "] in a list" error? Or, more importantly, what
do I do to stop getting it? Thanks!

Also, if anyone knows how to configure emacs to work on a 386
running Interactive Un?x 2.2(?) I'd appreciate info too. Thanks!

Email would probably be the best reply means. Thanks!
