Something is funny here. C-f should move the cursor ONE character to the right; it should not move more than one character position. What do you mean by "wrongly aligned"? The status line should be one line above the bottom of the window or screen. > I suspect it is something to do with the terminal setting , but I think > I've exhausted all possibilities ! Any suggestions? A "98751A" is a 19" color monitor -- it is not a workstation. Although I have no idea what kind of workstation you have, I can suggest a possible value for the TERM environment variable, based upon this monitor: hp300h (this assumes that you are not running a window system like X-windows -- if you are, you have to play games with the LINES and COLUMNS environment variable). If you're running Emacs on an HP-UX machine, I suggest getting a copy of the "unofficial HP GNU Emacs", which is an enhanced version of GNU Emacs V18.57 (note that this is *NOT SUPPORTED* by Hewlett-Packard). If you're a member of INTEREX, a copy is on this year's contrib tape. If you not a member, John Gilmore (who has no official connections with Hewlett-Packard, aside from possibly being a customer), has made a copy of this year's tape available for anonymous ftp from me10.lbl.gov (128.3.128.110). The filename containing the "unofficial HP GNU Emacs" is something like "/pub/interex/HUGE.tar.Z". You need about 35 megabytes to compile this puppy. -- Darryl Okahata Internet: darrylo@sr.hp.com DISCLAIMER: this message is the author's personal opinion and does not constitute the support, opinion or policy of Hewlett-Packard or of the little green men that have been following him all day.
