I have the following problem: I want to print a GNU texinfo manual on standard A4 paper (being roughly the same size as a US letter). Then I want to copy the manual to A5 paper, having half the area of the A4 paper. However, the result of this operation is a text with a good looking line spacing but with very thin and small characters. When I compare this copied-down version of the manual with the printed EMACS manual from FSF, the line spacing is exactly the same, but the characters of the printed manual is at least one, and probably two, points smaller. So: How do I convince TeX that I want to print it on standard paper but that the font is to be for a smaller paper size but enlarged? I can see a number of ways, some of which I have already tried: 1. Mucking around with texinfo.tex and try to change the fonts used there. Very complicated and didn't bring anything. 2. Giving the appropriate switch to TeX. This is what I hope the solution will be. :-) 3. Generate fake fonts by using metafont in some non-standard way. Ugly. 4. Print the image in the final size (A5). Unfortunately this will not give me enhanced resolution I get when I copy the manual down to A5. I am aware that I will lose a little in the copying process, but the printing dept. of our Univeristy has great copiers (I think :-) ).
