I am a Cognitive Science major at Occidental College, Los Angeles
and am writing a research paper on Connectionism.
I plan to evaluate the connectionist model in terms of both
architectural and functional equivalences to the behavior of the
biological brain. I am not focussing on modeling in terms of
computational mathematics, rather in terms of what is
known/accepted in terms of brain neuro-biology (including
higher-level organization such as lateralization, processing
centers, interhemisphere communication etc.).
I am familiar with texts like, The PDP Perspective (Rumelhart et
al), Meaning and Purpose in the Intact Brain (Miller), Explorers
of the Black Box (Allport) etc. I'd appreciate any suggestions or
advice about specific literature in this area i.e. neuroanatomic
equivalence. I'm particularly interested in papers or recent
texts that offer an evaluation/critique of Connectist theory or
models along the above lines.
Thanks in advance,
