[comp.ai.philosophy] An earnest plea to the Nets for info on the "Chinese Groom"

helz@ec.ecn.purdue.edu (Randall A Helzerman) (02/18/91)

I have a earnest and urgent request to make to the nets: I have met a
lady who is the living, breathing incarnation of every aspect of the
ideal woman. I am quite smitten, and this could be the start of
something wonderful. We are quite compatible on every level except
for one sticking point--(you are going to laugh when you read it) she
considers Searle's "Chinese Room" argument to be a conclusive argument
against the possibility of machine intelligence, whilst I think that
it is not.

What I am requesting from the nets is this: Did anyone save an
article which appeared in either this group or comp.ai which was a
parody on the chinese room? It dealt with a so-called "Chinese Groom"
and had several wicked puns about the whole thought experiment. Since
the young lady mentioned above is quite proud of her chinese heritage,
I think that this parody would be an excellent point of departure for
future discussions on the subject. If you have it, could
you PLEASE send a copy to helz@ec.ecn.purdue.edu? Not only would you
have my eternal gratitude, but you would also have the joy of knowing
that you have prompted at least an intellectual discussion on the
subject, an perhaps much more.....
