Original-posting-by: nsb@THUMPER.BELLCORE.COM (Nathaniel Borenstein) Original-subject: Call for Participation: Multimedia Mail Data Formats Reposted-by: emv@math.lsa.umich.edu (Edward Vielmetti) [Reposted to comp.text.sgml from the newsgroup(s) comp.mail.multi-media.] This is a call for position papers for a workshop on Multimedia Mail Data Formats to be held at the MHS '90 Conference on October 4 in Zurich. At the MHS '90 conference in Zurich, I will be chairing a workshop on multimedia mail data formats. At the workshop, I hope to see us discuss such questions as: -- What features are desirable in multimedia data formats? -- Is a single standard for multimedia mail formats desirable? Is it plausible in any given time frame? -- Is ODA the right basis for a standard? For a permanent standard or an interim one? -- What systems in research or other limited use have features that should be found in any eventual standard? -- What strategies are appropriate for moving the world towards an eventual standard data format or set of such formats? Discussion will not be limited to the above topics, but will probably use them as starting points. If you have a position on these or related issues, you are encouraged to submit a one or two page position paper to me, Nathaniel Borenstein, nsb@thumper.bellcore.com. Please submit your papers by September 28, so that they may be reproduced and passed out to the participants in the workshop. If you won't be coming to Zurich but would like to submit a position paper for the participants to read, that would be fine. Just send it to nsb@thumper.bellcore.com before September 28.
