GEPR is a data conversion language for translating patterns from one file to another. The user creates tables that indicate existing text strings to be replaced with new text strings by GEPR. GEPR manipulates, converts, or extracts data whether the need is for translating word processing formats to some type of markup; extracting specific data from spreadsheets, graphics, or word processor files; or transferring code from one system to another. GEPR has powerful pattern matching capability. GEPR performs sophisticated case-sensitive or -insensitive pattern-matching, such as substituting all occurrences of the word "Chapter" followed by any number of digits or spaces with a <chapter> tag. This is useful for translating different types of markup (ie. GML) to SGML. GEPR also supports context-sensitive translations. When appropriate, users can specify that a pattern should be replaced only within a certain part of the document, or specify a replacement in any number of ways depending on the context in which a pattern is encountered. Translation is completely pattern driven | simple or complex command sequences can be attached to patterns and executed only when the pattern is recognized in the appropriate context. Please let me know if you would like any more information on GEPR.
