Most cordless phones fall into one of two categories:
o+ Base to handset frequencies between 1700 and 1850 kHz.
Handset to base frequency in VHF region.
o+ Base to handset and handset to base frequencies both in
VHF region.
The VHF frequencies used by cordless phones are:
49.83 mHz.
49.845
49.86
49.875
49.89
These VHF frequencies are shared by other devices, such as:
o+ low power walkie-talkies (Radio Shack's Archer Space
Patrol (TM), Sony's Talkman (TM)
o+ wireless microphones (Radio Shack's Realistic 32-1220
and 33-1076)
o+ radio controlled toys
Owners of scanners or general coverage short wave receivers
may listen in on these phone conversations, so privacy is
not assured.
These cordless phones use frequency modulated emission. I
don't recall the lower frequency channels. The owners of
these cordless phones must accept any interference they may
receive and must correct any interference they may cause. A
label to this effect must be attached to newer cordless
phones.
Other frequencies may be allocated for this use in the
future by the FCC. For more information, refer to the June
1983 issue of Popular Communications magazine (Cowan Pub-
lishing).
