Unearthed from the tremendous masses of paper known as ISO working documents, I have in front of me ISO/TC 97/SC 18 N 852 "Comparison Between the Main ODA and SGML Objectives and Proposal for Future Work", written by a group of German experts. Even though this document is dated 1986-11-07, it is highly valuable reading. I think it's a little biased towards ODA, but in general, it's a good analysis of both standards, and raises many good and valid points. The document consists of an ISO cover page and 10 pages with nice tables that it would be hard to make available electronically with existing USENET support facilities. It seems impossible to get old documents out of ISO or any national standards body ("We can barely keep track of the volume of working documents as it passes through us. Archiving all of it for five years is asking a bit too much."), so I will send out copies to a limited number of interested parties by snail mail. If you would like a copy, send me your postal address. Should the volume of requests be large, I will try to find people who can copy and re-distribute locally. If you know that you can do this, I would appreciate knowing about it now. </Erik> -- Erik Naggum Professional Programmer +47-2-836-863 Naggum Software Electronic Text <ERIK@NAGGUM.NO> 0118 OSLO, NORWAY Computer Communications <enag@ifi.uio.no>
