I would like some information about FOSI and DSSSL, specifically what are they (I know they have something to do with formatting SGML), and how can I get hold of their specifications ? thanks, brad -- - standard disclaimers apply - jbm@hal.com (Brad Might) HaL Computer Systems - (512)794-2855 8920 Business Park Dr. Suite 300 Austin, Texas 78759

DSSSL can be bought from GCA or from ANSI or Global Engineering or whoever else sells ISO standards and draft standards in the U.S. I quote from the blurb in the latest GCA mailing: Document Style Semantics and Specification Language (DSSSL) ISO/IEC DIS 10179 This newly revices International Standard defines the Document Style Semantics and Specification Language (DSSSL) for the specification of document processing. The DSSSL standard provides a means of expessing the full range of document production specifications, including high quality typography required by the graphic arts industry. These specifications are defined by standard DSSSL semantics which allow users to fully specify the characteristics they wish to apply during document processing, such as composition, pagination, imposition, and data management facilities. The concepts behind DSSSL are associated with those that led to the development of generic coding, and specifically, with SGML. The exchange and separation of all information associated with a document, including content, style, logical and layout structures, is the focus of the DSSSL Standard. GCA can be reached at 1-703-519-8157 (fax at 548-2867), mail to Graphic Communications Association 100 Daingerfield Road, 4th Fl Alexandria, VA 22314-2888 Culled from their "Information Technologies Publications & Resources" brochure, a six-page list of SGML-relevant material. I'm sure they would be happy to send people a copy if they ask for it. (I'm not affiliated with GCA, except that I consider becoming a member.) I don't know what FOSI is. </Erik> -- Erik Naggum Professional Programmer +47-2-836-863 Naggum Software Electronic Text <erik@naggum.no> 0118 OSLO, NORWAY Computer Communications <enag@ifi.uio.no>
