hr propagation forecast bulletin nr 24	from arrl headquarters
newington ct june 13, 1983
to all radio amateurs bt

the solar flux rose to its high for the year, 174 on june 7. since
then it has been falling steadily and was down to 131 on the 12th.
it may drop further, but an upturn is expected soon. present solar
indications are that this will be a major rise.

geomagnetic activity was fair last week, making for mostly below
normal propagation. geomagnetic indices are expected to be lower,
and propagation mostly better, june 15 through 17. conditions for
the higher latitudes will be fair to poor june 18 through 21. june
22 through 30 will be fair to good, but propagation on all
frequencies will be modified frequently by intense sporadic
ionization in the e region.

precise prediction of sporadic e is not practical as yet, but its
major season is centered on the longest day of the year. it brings
short skip on 28 and 50 mhz very frequently in early summer and there
is some chance of its happening on 144 mhz as well, at distances of
1000 to 1400 miles.

american sunspot numbers for june 2 through 8 were between 66 and 127
with a mean of 95.0 ar
