[net.ham-radio] Interfacing to the telephone network

lauren@vortex.UUCP (Lauren Weinstein) (09/22/83)

Unfortunately, high fees and rather restrictive technical
requirements make it generally impractical for an individual
to have equipment certified for direct telephone interconnect,
and only equipment so certified may be legally connected.

However, there are firms who sell already certified "interface
modules" specifically designed for interfacing non-certified
circuits to the telephone network. I believe that the cheapest
of these costs somewhere around $60 or $70, which isn't too
bad considering that it makes you completely legal from an
interfacing standpoint. Contact "Cermetek" up in Silicon Valley
for more info: (408) 734-8150.
