hr dx bulletin nr 39 from arrl headquarters
newington ct october 7, 1983
to all radio amateurs bt

thanks to k1mm, n1ajo and w1trc of the southern new england dx
association for the following dx information.

kampuchea. confirmations for the recent kampuchea, xu, operation
will be accepted for dxcc credit. one of the local operators trained
by the japanese group has been appearing frequently on 20 meter ssb
at both european sunrise and usa sunrise. the operator is learning
quickly how to handle pileups, but since there is no split operation
at the present time, please have patience. qsl to ja1hqg.

niue. zl1amo is currently signing zk9rw from niue island. ron is
using the special zk9 prefix in commemoration of wcy. the operation
is expected to last approximately one more week, mostly cw. qsl to
zl1amo.

nigeria. 5n8ary, arye, is often working 40 and 80 meter ssb and cw
near the low band edges. qsl direct to his callbook address. he
expects to have his 160 meter antenna back up in a few weeks.

liechtenstein. frank, hb9nl, continues his month long operation as
hb0nl, cw only. he is frequently visited by hb9hk, who operates as
hb0hk on rtty. qsl to their respective home callsigns.

tuvalu. ordon, t2gsh, has been reported now active on 80 meter ssb
but with a rather weak signal in north america.

greece, etc. sv0aa is now operating as sv0aa/8 and is planning to
make a trip to sv5 and sv9 in the near future. remember that jack is
now qrv on 160 through 10 meters, cw only.

juan fernandez. ce0evg/0z, operated by rudy, a resident of juan
fernandez island, is regularly on 20 meter ssb around 0100 to 0300z.
qsl to wb6wod.

antarctica. richard, vp8ant, is preparing to leave his post within a
few weeks and will return to the uk. check 10 khz from the bottom on
cw and the usual dx frequencies on ssb. qsl direct to p.0. box 146,
cambridge, england.

china. by1pk was operated on ssb last week for four days. signals
were weak and not many stations were worked. the operator was tom
wong, ve7bc. however, due to qrm and jamming on the frequency, it is
rumored that ssb operation may not be allowed again, at least for a
while. a japanese group will go to shanghai next week and start up a
new station, by4aa. it is unknown how long the operation will last
or whether there will be all band all mode operation.

the sudan. for waz hunters, look for df3nz/st2, who has surfaced
again, this time on 80 meter ssb around 0130z.

160 meters. many ussr stations have been worked in north america
over the last week, including ua, ua9, uq2, up2 and ub5. with
decreasing sunspot numbers, low band conditions will continue to
improve, so this is a band to watch carefully.

st. paul island. when last heard, the combined american/canadian
dxpedition, cy0spi, had made over 15,000 qsos, spread over nine bands
and four modes. qsl to ve1asj. congratulations on a fine
expedition.

bob on 1825 khz at 0000z, on 80 at 0900, on 40 at 0700 on 7234 khz,
and on 20 at 1500z on 14178 khz.
