I spoke with John Botowski of the FCC Personal Radio Bureau today re the status of the no-code license. He says that the comment period and the comment reply period have ended, there are about 5000 comments in 16 volumes, and the commission will probably decide the matter toward the end of this year or the start of '84. I asked specifically about the CIA rumor; his response was that in looking thru the comments he had not noticed any from the CIA. These comments are available for public inspection if you're in DC, and there is a commercial copy service which will copy them for you if not. However, John warns that they will probably charge by the hour for search time thru 16 volumes to find what you want and thus it could get expensive.
