A 70 meg dump file that I made to disk is corrupt after restoring about 19 meg. The following is what happens: Script started on Sat Nov 10 22:01:57 1990 elara.esl.acs.cmu.edu# restore xf /usr/u.d partial block read: 5068 should be 10240 abort? [yn] n File read error while trying to resyncronize continue? [yn] y continuation failed: Bad file number elara.esl.acs.cmu.edu# exit script done on Sat Nov 10 22:07:41 1990 The hardware configuration is as follows (if it matters). A DECstation 3100, 16 meg memory, dumping from an internal RZ23 to a Wren VI. Are there any utilities that can try to recover the rest of the dump file? Please mail me directly. I can summarize if there is interest. Thanks, Walter ps. I know the format of the dump file is documented in dump(5) but is there any easier way than to write a small program to add in an extra 5172 characters at the right place? ------- internet:Walter.Wong@andrew.cmu.edu bitnet:r746ww0r@cmccvb
