[comp.unix.xenix.sco] adding secondary HD - HELP

HELP!!!!
We running SCO XENIX 2.2.3 (286) on an AT clone. I'm trying to add
an additional hard drive and am running into some difficulties
that aren't making sense.

The primary drive is a Miniscribe (6085) , 1024 cyls, 8 heads, 17
sector/track. It was already in the system when we got it.
It is a type 4 drive and is listed as a 65 meg.

The controller is a WD1003-WA2 (MFM).

The new drive I want to use as a secondary is a MicroScience, HH1090
1314 tracks, 7 heads (type 15?).

Here's where part of the confusion comes in. I don't have any docs on the
Miniscribe - There are 4 pairs of jumpers at the back edge of the card,
they are just numbered 1, 2, 3, 4. The only pins that are jumpered
is the number 1 pin and the matching pin right above it. Ie:

       . . . .
       |
       . . . .
       1 2 3 4

Is this the terminator for the drive? Do I remove it or move it?

OK, After reading the docs, more times that I'd like, SCO seems to
indicate that I don't have to go through DOS in order to setup the ROM
for the additional drive. (My current list only goes as high as 14
in ROM). I understood that the first phase of adding an additional HD
had to be done in DOS. Is that right or wrong? I do have a copy of
Disk Manager that has this drive listed. Speaking of Disk Manager,
is it's only purpose just to add an entry for a disk type to the ROM?

The SCO man/update shows that mkdev/dkinit is used to update for a second
disk, what is to keep me from accidently zapping my primary? outside
of sheer stupidity. ;-)

Dkinit also asks the following:

    DISK PARAMETERS VALUE
    1. Cylinders 1314
    2. Heads 7
    3. Write Reduce ?
    4. Write Precomp 1314 (?)
    5. Ecc ?
    6. Control ?
    7. Landing Zone 1314 ( last track? )
    8. Sectors/track 17

I hope this makes sense to someone out there.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
