[comp.unix.xenix.sco] Repeated respawns of 'dialTBIT' on Enabled Port

tkevans@oss670.UUCP (Tim Evans) (09/07/90)

In setting up a machine running SCO Xenix 2.3.2 for UUCP with a Telebit
T2500, I'm experiencing repeated and indefinitely continuing respawns
of 'dialTBIT' on the enabled port (tty1A). It appears that the modem is
not responding to the dial program's effort to initialize it. (Using the
-z option to dialTBIT also hangs up for a minute or so with no apparent
response from the modem.) The respawn-dialTBIT-create-lockfile-quit
trying-respawn-dialTBIT cycle continues indefinitely. And, since there is
almost always a lockfile present in /usr/spool/uucp for the port, outgoing
UUCP calls are almost impossible. The only solution so far has been to
disable the port. I assume that, since release 2.3.2 contains the
dialTBIT executable and source code, it also includes the improved
uucico that's part of the Telebit SLS; it certainly acts like it,
understanding and dealing with the Telebit codes in the phone number
field of /usr/lib/uucp/Systems.

(I have, BTW, tried both serial ports on the machine and swapped cables
and T2500 modems. Results are always the same.)

If you repond via e-mail, please do so to the address *B*E*L*O*W*
and not to the path above. THANKS!!!
